I just got back with our new float plane from Joliette, Quebec!
It was quite the adventure.
We had originally put a deposit on a PA -12 located in Sudbury, Ontario pending inspection. Although it was a beautiful plane, a major problem surfaced in the inspection when I went to get it. So, a little bit frustrated I decided to move on and keep looking.
I started filtering through all the listings I could find along with the listed and unlisted planes multiple other people were sending me.
Since I was out east already I decided I better look at what was available in the area before I went home. We would consider any plane across Canada as long as it was fit for our purposes.
I looked at a couple Cubs, one of which was a consideration. But then a Maule M5- 235 popped up in Joliette, Quebec. It looked like a definite contender but was over a 7 hour drive away. I was staying with previous client and friend Lenn Gavan and he graciously offered to drive me down to take a look.
Once I got a closer look at the plane I decided that this was the one.
I had to wait for a few days to get it switched over onto the floats before I could start the trek home. It was over a 2300 mile journey from that part of Quebec to home in Northern B.C.!
The aviation industry is like a family and a lot of people helped me along the way.
We are excited to have another piece of the puzzle in place for our operation.
It’s going to give us the ability to get into some of those smaller lakes that we use but also give us more carrying capacity for when we need it!
If you’re booked with us for this coming season, you might get a chance for a close look at this new addition to Golden Bear.
Have a fine summer, and happy hunting wherever you find yourself this season.
